When do 2018 jeeps come out
Wrangler JLs will be available in two- and four-door models, but the Unlimited tag no longer denotes the latter. Update: Detailed pricing information is now available here. Push-button start and a backup camera are standard across the board, as are halogen headlamps LEDs are available in certain packages , fog lamps, skid plates for the transfer case and the fuel tank, tow hooks two front, one rear , cruise control, five USB outlets, side airbags, hill-start assist, and more.
Electronic trailer-sway control is standard, and the optional towing package brings a Class II hitch receiver, four-pin and seven-pin adapters, a amp alternator, a amp battery, and auxiliary switches. The maximum tow rating is pounds for the two-door and for the four-door. The Wrangler JL features a dramatically improved standard Sunrider softtop. Now entirely free of zippers, it relies on a framework, similar to those in some vintage convertibles, that allows it to be raised or lowered in a fraction of the previous time.
Additionally, the back window and rear quarter-window sections can be removed independently while the overhead portion remains in place. For those who find the new and improved softtop still too intimidating, there is the literally named Sky One-Touch power-top option. An electrically operated full-length canvas roof, it slides rearward with the press of a button, opening approximately 90 percent of the roof area to the sky.
Available on Sahara and Rubicon four-door models only, it allows for the rear quarter-windows to also be removed for near open-air cruising. As for full hardtops, the optional Freedom Top three-piece hardtop permits various open-air configurations and can be ordered to match the body color on Sahara and Rubicon models. Returning for duty and anchoring the lineup as the base engine is the Pentastar 3. Coming for the model year is a diesel option for four-door Wranglers.
Mopar fans will undoubtedly recognize the 3. Rated at horsepower and lb-ft in the Jeep, it comes solely with the eight-speed automatic as tuned for the high-torque application.
Now in its third generation, the diesel six uses a low-friction bearing in the turbo and low-friction pistons to improve efficiency, while new injectors, piston-bowl geometry, and glow plugs with integral compression-pressure sensors optimize combustion. The third and most intriguing engine is the new turbocharged 2.
Notice how it makes 35 lb. Anyway, two gearboxes are offered, either an all-new, Aisin-built, six-speed manual that replaces the defunct Mercedes-based six-speed. Jeep promises a better insulated unit from vibration and noise. Of course, all Wranglers come standard with four-wheel drive and a two-speed transfer case with 4x4 low.
After my adventure through the Rubicon Trail, I can attest that there are very few vehicles on the planet that can come out of a dealership, with a warranty, and climb rocks, get itself out of thick mud, and spread its wheels like a spider from one boulder to the next. This is an immensely capable machine. At least, that new dashboard design looks solid, all information is clear and easy to grasp, the centre stack has well laid-out controls, USB ports and auxiliary switches, and FCA still has one of the best infotainment systems in the business for being so intuitive and straightforward.
The V6 does an OK job to get the Wrangler up and going, but low-end torque is still a disappointment. The eight-speed automatic remains somewhat rough, emitting awkward clunks upon downshifts and sometimes sticking to a higher gear when requesting power.
Essentially, the Jeep Wrangler is still itself in every respect: an iconic go-anywhere machine, a formidable open-top Sunday cruiser under the sun, and a fashion statement on wheels. I regret to tell you folks that the days of an affordable Jeep with no options are long behind us. Photo: William Clavey.

Evolutionary at best, the JL-series model continues to feature a tall grille with seven vertical slots, round headlights, flared fenders, and a rear-mounted spare tire — how could it not? We like what we see; this is precisely how you redesign an icon. We hope Land Rover takes note as it prepares the next-generation Defender. In profile, the JL to adopts a more rakish windshield, a small concession made in the name of basic aerodynamics.
The back end receives only minor tweaks, such as new-look lights inspired by the ones found on the Renegade crossover. The hood, the doors, and the windshield frame are made out of aluminum in a bid to help make the Wrangler pounds lighter than its predecessor.
You will be able to start the engine by pressing a button instead of turning a key, and the instrument cluster incorporates a configurable 7-inch color touchscreen. Really, Jeep is dead serious about modernizing the Wrangler where appropriate. The list of available tech features includes a blind-spot monitoring system and forward collision warning.
It makes horsepower and pound-feet of torque, and it shifts through either a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic. In comparison, its predecessor posted 16 and 20, respectively. And, of course, four-wheel drive comes standard.
For more wheel articulation, you can disconnect the sway bars by pushing a button on the center console. Exclusively offered with an eight-speed automatic transmission designed by ZF, the four is part of a mild hybrid system that includes a belt-driven starter-generator and a volt battery. We have even better news for off-road enthusiasts. Jeep promises the Wrangler will get a 3.
